DRWF Diabetes Ball
The Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation® (DRWF) celebrated 12 great years of funding scientific and clinical research towards finding a cure for diabetes, on Friday, February 25, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda in Maryland.
Guest speaker will be Republican Governor Mike Huckabee, who is celebrating his own personal victory over diabetes. The Governor’s personal lifestyle changes, as well as health initiatives in his home state of Arkansas are turning into a national model for early screening, exercise and practical health education, and it has taken on the nickname – Healthy Arkansas.
“Health costs are staggering both for government and business. I realized I couldn’t be a spokesman for better health until I improved my own health. “ Governor Mike Huckabee, News Column 2004
Governor Mike Huckabee was presented with DRWF’s highest honor, the “Leadership Empowerment Award.” Also honored for their dedication to research for the diabetes cure are distinguished researchers Gordon C. Weir, MD of Joslin Diabetes Center; Bernhard Hering, MD of Diabetes Institute: University of Minnesota; Daniel Finkelstein, MD of Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University; and Norma Kenyon, PhD, of Diabetes Research Institute in Miami.
The event raised more than $200,000 for diabetes research. We thank our supporters for this wonderful evening.
